I think Tom Cruise is either financially desperate or has too spare a time on hand.
Top Gun Maverick - with all the hype from different directions in last few days - I finally happened to watch; and may I say it was much to my dismay and disappointment compared to Top Gun. Given that I was in a different age and space, but still there was spunk - spunk and hunk that lead youngsters hanging Tom Cruise posters in countless bedrooms.
This one - nayyy
Same template - I mean same all the way. Doesn't a person grow in their life - I mean in their thoughts in their actions as the number of age years pile up ? seemingly that's not the case with Cap. Pete Mitchell. He's shown just as cocky, having the same dressing sense and same motor vehicle interests with a gap of 36 years not changing a thing. While his peer Iceman is dying and dead, Pete Mitchell (after three and a half decades) still has a body that is able to sustain 10.3 G's. The game at beach, putting on shirt with sand on and breaking the game for a girl - it's all the same. With that many years gone by, Capt. Mitchell still talks to himself - 'TALK TO ME GOOSE'
Goose's son dresses just like his deceased father and plays the same track, that too on a PIANO. Does this generation even know what a Piano is ? To the extent my knowledge serves me right - post 1990's, California has wearing helmet mandatory by law for all motorcycle riders - however that does not hold true for Cap. Pete Mitchell. To this day he flashes his Aviators and rides his bike parallel to runway - sans a helmet. Not even attempting to delve into the make believe action story in the last part, which, it's a given that some weave has to be their to complete the loop - but in today's cinema, it has to be at least remotely believable. Dogfight scenes were interesting, however I had instantaneous comparison of the movie BEHIND ENEMY LINES, which to me still scores more.
Done with Top Gun, and done with 450 bucks.
